My Priorities

Creating local jobs and safety in a changing climate are at the core of my priorities.

Invest in the health of our community

To improve the lives of Territorians we must address the determinants of health including adequate housing, community control, affordable food, access to health services and education. The systems that we implement must lift people up not work against them. Our solutions must be based in our Arid remote context and must first utilise the existing skills, resources and knowledge in our community. We need to address these determinants and future-proof our solutions.

Increase appropriate public housing stock
Improve food-security and affordability
Remove the freeze on health expenditure
Achieve the Close the Gap targets

Access to low cost, safe and clean energy

I fully support the work of the Anti-fracking campaigners that have successfully shon a light on the poor economics of fracking and the risks it poses to our water in the NT. Read more about the economics of fracking here. It is obvious that the only way forward economically and environmentally is a Renewable Energy Economy. As one of the sunniest regions in the world, Alice Springs residents and businesses shouldn’t be struggling to pay massive electricity bills. By harnessing our solar resources we can create thousands of skilled, local jobs, reduce the cost of living and attract new industries to our region, which will revitalise our economy and safeguard our climate. I fully endorse the 10 Gigawatt Vision for the NT and know that with the right Government we can be a major player in the Renewable Energy Economy.

Protect our water and food resources

To ensure the protection of our resources and the health of our community we must have legislation in place to hold Government accountable to commitments. The unprecedented restrictions that we have experienced from the Covid-19 lockdowns has proven that we need to be much smarter about how we operate in Central Australia and work towards a more circular economy. We need to be embracing local solutions for our food, energy and water systems as well as managing more of our waste and recycling in the NT. There are fantastic examples of resilience-building projects across Australia, we can be the champions of remote-arid zone solutions.

Invest in Water and Energy Waste efficiencies in public buildings
Invest in Waste Diversion and Re-manufacturing Industries
Support mechanisms for local Food Producers

Equitable Education for ALL children

Alice Springs priority school enrolment zones are inequitable. From their very first day of school every single child in this town should have equitable access to a quality education. School zoning should be revisited and revised as a priority, to ensure zoning operates fairly, and address the growing disparities in educational outcomes between our primary schools.
